EMERSON PARK RESTROOM FACILITY

Emerson Park now has a restroom thanks to the participation of area residents who have been active in their local steering committee. Knowing that the park is a favorite place for local families and for youth involved in West Central Community Center activities, the Steering Committee elected to allocate Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the restroom.

Since Emerson-Garfield became a Community Development neighborhood in 1976, the members of the Steering Committee have used CDBG funds to improve the quality of life in their neighborhood. Based on the Community Development Program objective to primarily benefit low and moderate residents, Steering Committee members have selected many projects and programs, including:

  • Scholarships for children to attend before and after school programs
  • Leadership training for citizen participation
  • Project Joy senior program
  • Volunteers of America Emergency Services
  • Sidewalk reconstruction and new construction
  • Planting of trees in the public right-of-ways
  • Rehabilitation of single family houses for low-income owner occupants

Attend Emerson-Garfield’s monthly meetings:

2nd Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.

Corbin Senior Center
827 W. Cleveland
