COMMUNITY GARDEN
The Hillyard Steering Committee used its neighborhood
allocation of Community Development Block Grant funds to provide irrigation lines to a
community vegetable garden, adjacent to the Northeast Community Center. Several
organizations collaborated in the construction of the garden, which is being used,
primarily, by Hillyard residents living in nearby apartments designed for low-income
residents.
Other CDBG-funded projects and programs of the Hillyard
Steering Committee:
- Sidewalk new construction and reconstruction
- Park land acquisition and development of Loren Kondo Park at
Florida and Longfellow and a, as yet, unnamed park at Lacey and Wabash
- Land acquisition for a youth sports complex
- Neighborhood cleanups
- Public service programs for the benefit of seniors and youth
- Leadership training for increased citizen participation
- Housing rehabilitation for income-eligible single family
homeowners
You are invited to attend the Steering
Committee meetings:
